Co-creation workshops for EU Literacy Coalition Memorandum

ARC Consultant Caldon Mercieca recently attended and contributed to the co-creation sessions led by the EU Literacy Coalition.

These sessions took place at the National Library of Poland in Warsaw between 6th & 7th May 2026.

This 2-day workshop, organised by the European Commission, brought together stakeholders from 19 European countries, with representatives from libraries, booksellers, education, culture, reading promotion and more. Participants laid the groundwork for a Memorandum intended to serve as the EU Literacy Coalition’s founding document.

The Memorandum, shaped by the workshop outcomes, including its principles and vision, will be presented at a launch event in Brussels in September 2026.

This workshop followed an international conference held on 6th May at the same venue, entitled ‘Literacy for Democracy’, which brought researchers and practitioners in literacy policy from all across Europe.+
