ARC team contributes to the 20th edition of the Berlin Conference: Europe – A Cultural Project

Conference included strong participation from the Maltese Islands, offering unique peripheral perspectives

Celebrating 20 years since the Berlin Conference was founded as a space to bridge culture, arts, and politics, ARC joined the civil society initiative “A Soul for Europe” and key stakeholders—cultural workers, artists, festival makers, politicians, policymakers, and civil society members from across Europe—at this year’s edition, “Europe – A Cultural Project”.

The initiative brought together diverse narratives and experiences from decision-makers and artistically- & culturally-oriented actors across Europe, focusing on a collective vision and active commitment for the future of Europe through culture.

Malta’s perspective as an island on the periphery was represented by: President of the Gozo Regional Council, Samuel Azzopardi; Mayor of Birgu, John Boxall; ARC Managing Director, Davinia Galea; and ARC Associate Stephanie Bonnici, Strategy Group Member of “A Soul for Europe”.

With support from the Janatha Stubbs Foundation, we also facilitated the participation of Maltese artists, activists, and academics: Kristina Borg, Samuel Mallia, Stefanie Weenink, Rachelle Deguara, Zofia Stelmaszczyk.

Public cultural organisations from the Maltese Islands also actively participated: Arts Council Malta, Festivals Malta, Teatru Manoel, Gozo Regional Council (Victoria ECoC 2031 Bid) and Port Regional Council (Birgu ECoC 2031 Bid).
